Our Story

nce upon a time there were a group of concerned citizens . . . in Berryville, Arkansas, who recognized that their community needed a library. They established one on the 3rd floor of the local courthouse in 1938.

And when the Berryville Public Library outgrew that space by 1951, concerned citizens built another building, a 20 x 59-foot space on the public square, for the library.

And when the library outgrew that space 27 years later in 1978 and again in 1990, concerned citizens stepped up two more times to help the library expand, finally into a 3,000-square-foot building.

But this is not a fairy tale.

Thirty years later, the Berryville Public Library is busier than ever and bursting at the seams but still in the same 3,000 square feet.
